This Christmas, Magpas Air Ambulance will be the only service of it's kind to be available 24/7 in the East of England. The specialist Magpas medical team will be on constant alert, ready to respond and provide those in life-threatening medical emergencies with urgent, critical care.
Ollie is one of our Magpas Air Ambulance Critical Care Paramedics. He was on shift last Christmas, and he'll be there again this year, ready to provide seriously ill and injured people across the region with lifesaving care.
Ollie explains, "I've been a Magpas Air Ambulance paramedic for five years now. It's the best job in the world. I feel so proud to be part of this team – well, it's more like a family really. We all look out for each other. It can be tough sometimes – we only get called out to the most serious emergencies, so we see the patients who are in the worst trouble. Sometimes it might be a child, or a mum or a grandparent. But we constantly train and practise so that we can think and react instantly, and keep calm – this is essential, as you can imagine, especially in a situation involving a car and a pedestrian, like young Josh.
"When the red phone rings, we know someone's life is at stake, and we're always ready to be in the air or on the road within minutes. Some days, we might get called out six times – Christmas is no different from any other day. Over Christmas last year, our medical team treated 27 patients. We're always ready, day or night.
"Of course I'll miss spending Christmas with my family again this year, but it feels good to know that I've got the training and the team around me to make the difference that could save someone's life this Christmas. If you would consider helping me and the team with a gift this Christmas you could help provide more lifesaving treatment for families like Josh's. Thank you."
Please support our Christmas Appeal, and help Ollie and the rest of the Magpas Air Ambulance team continue to save lives this Christmas and in 2019. Thank you.
