Former patient Abaigh was just 9 years old when she was hit by a car in Hemel Hempstead. Abaigh was fighting for her life when Magpas Doctor Tom Odbert and Paramedic Sally Boor arrived in the Magpas Air Ambulance. They anaesthetised Abaigh, putting her into a medically induced coma at the scene of her accident, before flying her on to hospital.
Two years on and Abaigh has recovered extremely well. To say thank you, Abaigh’s dad Paddy set himself a challenge and embarked on a sponsored cycle ride from the family home in Hemel Hempstead, all the way to Cornwall! Paddy, along with his friend Alan, managed to complete the 358 miles in just 5 days, raising a total of £1,139 pounds for Magpas, and also for The Sick Children’s Trust, who supported Abaigh and the family during her recovery process.
Paddy said, “The cycle was very hard with lots of hills, and psychologically it was really difficult, but we managed it! I chose to support Magpas because they literally saved my daughter Abaigh’s life. She was so poorly and they flew in like true heroes! I’ll always be grateful to the Magpas team.”
