Sandy, multi vehicle collision – Magpas Air Ambulance performs specialist procedure at scene

At 11:14am on Saturday morning (23rd December), Magpas Doctor Jon Barratt and Paramedic Alex Pearce arrived in Sandy via a Magpas Air Ambulance rapid response vehicle. They had been called to treat a man who had been seriously injured in a head on road traffic collision.

The patient, who was trapped underneath one of the vehicles, was safely removed by an EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crew and a Fire & Rescue Service crew. The Magpas enhanced medical team assessed the man (in his 20’s) who had sustained multiple injuries. They anaesthetised the patient and performed a roadside surgical procedure, providing him with A&E level care there and then.

The Magpas doctor and paramedic team then accompanied the patient to Addenbrooke’s Hospital via land ambulance. He was in a very serious condition upon arrival at the hospital.

A Magpas Air Ambulance spokesperson said, “This incident highlights how we can bring vital hospital level care to seriously ill patients when time is of the essence, 24/7 in the East of England and beyond.”

Bedfordshire Police were also in attendance.

We have no further information at this time.
