Thomas Morris: The ultimate Orange Day supporters

Thomas Morris: The ultimate Orange Day supporters

Staff at Thomas Morris didn’t just go orange; they went above and beyond for Magpas Air Ambulance’s annual Orange Day! The Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire based estate agents pledged to raise £5,000 this May for our lifesaving service – and they didn’t disappoint!

Each branch of the estate agents came up with their own fundraising idea and set out to raise as much money as they could for Magpas. Some wore orange for the day, donning some interesting bright orange suits, and donated money; others hosted bake sales and raffles for the local community. Two very notable fundraising exploits consisted of a car push and a netball tournament and the company even turned their website orange for the whole month of May!

The netball tournament was a huge success! 18 teams took part on the day; everyone got together alongside their spectators and supporters, and competed in the charity tournament. The sunshine was out; there was a BBQ, bouncy castle, cake sale and raffle throughout the day. Teams of all abilities took part and had a lot of fun, and in the end it was The Cherries who took home the trophy.

The car push was an event that we’ve never seen before. Staff from Thomas Morris pushed one of the Magpas Air Ambulance rapid response vehicles for 24 miles in just 7 hours (to represent our 24/7 lifesaving service)! They got off to a slow start; however they soon found their stride and managed to complete the challenge in 7 hours on the dot! The people taking part were sponsored by friends, family and local companies.

The guys and girls at Thomas Morris have outdone themselves this year, they have smashed their original target and raised well over £5,000 for Magpas Air Ambulance! We are so grateful to have such committed and enthusiastic supporters!

There are many schools and businesses taking part and going orange for Magpas this year. Either they are wearing something orange and donating £1, or organising some fantastic fundraising challenges such as a netball tournament, bake sale and even a car push as well as getting the local community involved.

Serial quizzers go Orange for Magpas

Serial quizzers go Orange for Magpas

As part of our annual Orange Day, Pat, Clifford and Maureen ran an orange themed quiz night all in aid of Magpas Air Ambulance.

The serial quizzers, from Somersham, who have organised an Orange Day quiz for us for the past three years really go all out on their quizzes; theming the questions and prizes around all things orange. This year’s consolation prize was an orange button – so next year the people in last place can keep their fingers on the button!!

They also make it mandatory for all participants to wear some orange whilst quizzing; if people turn up without any orange items they ae made to wear orange ribbon, (and orange underwear doesn’t count…)

We have attached the quiz for you to have a go at (get in touch for the answers!)

This year Pat, Clifford and Maureen’s quiz raised a fantastic £210, all in aid of Magpas Air Ambulance and our lifesaving care by land, by air that we provide, 24/7.

Peterborough United's Barry Fry supporting Magpas Orange Day

Peterborough United's Barry Fry supporting Magpas Orange Day

Peterborough United’s Director of Football, Barry Fry, is calling on fans and local people to wear something orange for Magpas Orange Day. The celebration day takes place on 20th May to promote Magpas Air Ambulance’s lifesaving work and raise vital funds.

People are encouraged to get their workplace, school or social club involved and wear something orange with a £1 donation to the charity, or fundraise with ideas such as sitting in a baked bean bath or eating only orange foods for the day.

Dressed in an orange wig, Barry said, “It’s really important to support this important local cause, as none of know when we might need their help. Wearing something orange and donating £1 is an easy way to show your support for the work of their amazing doctors and paramedics, who save lives around the clock. It would be great to see all of Peterborough going orange on 20th May.”

Magpas Air Ambulance brings crucial lifesaving care by land and air to patients in life-threatening emergencies. Many of the UK’s expert doctors and paramedics volunteer their own time to work with Magpas Air Ambulance. In the last two years alone, the service has been called out 318 times to incidents in Peterborough. The medical team have treated patients at incidents ranging from serious road traffic collisions to heart attacks.

As Magpas Air Ambulance does not receive direct Government funding and relies on public donations to keep the service going, Orange Day is an important day in the charity’s calendar in reaching its fundraising goal of £4 million this year.

Peterborough United will also be supporting fundraising efforts at the final match of the season on Sunday 8th May with bucket collections for the charity.

Schools and businesses to go orange on 20th May in support of Magpas Air Ambulance

Schools and businesses to go orange on 20th May in support of Magpas Air Ambulance

On 20th May businesses, schools and social clubs will be going orange and taking on fundraising challenges in aid of local charity Magpas Air Ambulance. Magpas Orange Day takes place annually to promote the charity’s lifesaving work and raise vital funds.

Pupils and employees are encouraged to wear something orange and donate £1, but can also fundraise with ideas such as sitting in a baked beans bath or eating only orange foods for the day. The charity offers advanced lifesaving care to people in medical emergencies across the East of England and beyond. As it does not receive Government funding and relies on public donations to keep the service going, Orange Day is an important day in the charity’s calendar in reaching its fundraising goal of £4 million this year.

Estate agents Thomas Morris Sales & Lettings will be supporting this year’s Magpas Orange Day across their eight offices and property management division with an aim to raise over £1,000 on the day.

Simon Bradbury, Director at Thomas Morris said: “We’ve supported Magpas Orange Day for the past 3 years and our staff love fundraising for this local cause. In previous years we’ve had great fun by selling orange cakes, organising a sponsored bike ride, and decorating our offices.  This year, amongst other things, staff members will be participating in a 12 hour Ten Pin Bowling marathon at Lakeside Lodge in Pidley. The bowling alley has been provided free of charge. Magpas Air Ambulance is a vital service which anyone might need, and I’d encourage other local businesses like Lakeside Lodge to support Magpas Orange Day.”

Staff and volunteers from Magpas Air Ambulance will be in Huntingdon town centre on 13th and 20th May to promote the charity and encourage others to take part.
