Ampthill, elderly man with badly broken leg – Magpas Air Ambulance called to scene

At 1.54am this morning (16th) Magpas Doctor Jono Ritson and Paramedic Alex Pearce arrived in Ampthill, Bedfordshire, via a Magpas Air Ambulance rapid response vehicle. They had been called to treat a man who had suffered a serious leg injury.

The Magpas enhanced medical team assessed the patient (in his 80’s) who had a badly broken leg. The doctor and paramedic team sedated the patient at the scene (providing him with A&E level care) which allowed them to splint his injury before accompanying him by land ambulance to Bedford Hospital. They monitored his condition and provided the man with advanced pain relief throughout the journey. He was in a serious but stable condition upon arrival.

An EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic team were also in attendance.

At 3.52pm Saturday afternoon (6th) Magpas Doctor Maria Smith and Paramedic Dan Phillips landed in Sandy via the Magpas Air Ambulance. They had been called to treat a man who had suffered very serious injuries in a multi-vehicle collision.

The Magpas enhanced medical team assessed the patient (in his 30’s) who had suffered a severe leg injury. They gave the man advanced pain relief and sedated him at the scene (providing him with A&E level care) before accompanying him to Bedford Hospital via land ambulance. The patient was in a serious but stable condition upon arrival.

The helicopter crew who flew the medical team were Chief Pilot Richard Eastwood and Crewmember Steve Hunwicks.

An EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crew and Bedfordshire Police were also in attendance.

They administered advanced pain relief (providing him with A&E level care at the scene) and worked with the Hazardous Area Response Team to extricate the man. At 6.37pm this evening (23rd) Magpas Doctor Steve Corry-Bass and Paramedic Simon Standen arrived at the M1 in Bedfordshire between junctions 12-13 via the Magpas Air Ambulance. They had been called by the EEAST Ambulance Service to treat a motorcyclist injured in a collision with a car.

The Magpas enhanced medical team assessed a man (in his 30s) who had sustained a leg injury. They provided him with advanced pain relief at the scene (giving him A&E level care). He was then airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge where he was in a stable condition upon arrival.
 
Bedfordshire Police and the Highways Agency shut the motorway in order to allow the air ambulance to land on the carriageway. 
 
The helicopter crew who flew the medical team and patient were Pilot Dan Vickers and Crewmember George Phillips.
 
EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crews and an off-duty EEAST paramedic were also in attendance.

New charity shop in Sandy seeking volunteers!

Magpas Air Ambulance is excited to announce that we will be opening our first charity shop in Bedfordshire in spring 2017. 

We're looking for reliable and friendly volunteers to assist in the shop in central Sandy.

From helping customers on the shop floor, to sorting items in our stock room, you can volunteer as little as a few hours a week, at a time that suits you.

 

You will have the opportunity to make a difference, helping to save lives, with the chance to meet interesting people and gain valuable skills, or to put existing skills to good use.

Your role as one of our highly valued volunteers would support our fundraising department through our new charity shop opening soon in Sandy. This is an excellent opportunity to obtain valuable work experience as well as meeting new people in a way that directly contributes to the lifesaving work that our air ambulance provides.

The role of our volunteers can change on a regular basis, with customer facing roles and sorting in our stockroom available we can offer a variety of opportunities to support our charity.

Magpas Air Ambulance was called to two separate incidents in Bedford on Saturday afternoon (25th) and in the early hours of this morning (26th) to give advanced care to two men with head injuries.

At 4.22pm on Saturday afternoon (25th) Magpas Doctors Steve Corry-Bass and Simon Lewis, and Paramedic Chris Hawkins, landed in Bedford via the Magpas Air Ambulance. They had been called by the EEAST Ambulance Service to treat a man (in his 20s) who had sustained a head injury. They placed the man into an induced coma at the scene (providing him with A&E level care) before airlifting him to Addenbrooke’s Hospital. He was in a stable condition upon arrival at hospital.

The Magpas enhanced medical team was again called to Bedford at 4.57am on Sunday morning (26th). Magpas Doctor Rupert Hurry and Paramedic Steve Chambers arrived by rapid response vehicle to treat a man (in his 60s) who had sustained a head injury following a fall. They placed the man into an induced coma before accompanying him by land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where he was in a critical condition upon arrival.

EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crews were in attendance at both incidents.
