At 6.37pm this evening (23rd) Magpas Doctor Steve Corry-Bass and Paramedic Simon Standen arrived at the M1 in Bedfordshire between junctions 12-13 via the Magpas Air Ambulance. They had been called by the EEAST Ambulance Service to treat a motorcyclist injured in a collision with a car.
The Magpas enhanced medical team assessed a man (in his 30s) who had sustained a leg injury. They provided him with advanced pain relief at the scene (giving him A&E level care). He was then airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge where he was in a stable condition upon arrival.
Bedfordshire Police and the Highways Agency shut the motorway in order to allow the air ambulance to land on the carriageway.
The helicopter crew who flew the medical team and patient were Pilot Dan Vickers and Crewmember George Phillips.
EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crews and an off-duty EEAST paramedic were also in attendance.
