Magpas Air Ambulance saves lives and limits disability by taking enhanced emergency medical care to patients in their moment of need. Their senior doctors and paramedics give the very best emergency care, in the air or on land, including treatments normally only available in hospital. The service operates 24/7 and, on average, answers 4 calls for emergency help a day treating around 900 patients in life-threatening emergencies every year. They primarily serve the communities of Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Peterborough but their missions also cover over 12 counties in and around the East of England.

The charity is raising funds to purchase new patient monitors which cost £15,780 each and will ultimately save countless lives in the future. The patient monitor is the charity’s most vital piece of equipment which informs them of a critically ill or injured patient’s baseline observations including heart rate, oxygen saturation and blood pressure. This information is fundamental in forming a plan for the patient’s treatment and transfer to the hospital best placed to deliver the care they need. All the information provided by the monitor is crucial, and this new model will enable our medical teams to improve communications with key hospitals across the East of England through the use of wireless technology and save them vital time in recording patient information – which will be automatically uploaded onto the charity patient database.

A grant of £15,780 will enable the charity to buy one new monitor which will future proof the service and be a lasting legacy from The Sun.
