After the success of the first ever BRoW (bike, run or walk) for Magpas on Saturday it’s sure to not be the last!
The sun shone on Ferry Meadows in Peterborough as the first of the sporty fundraisers turned up to register and collect their wristbands, ready to take on the challenge ahead. There was even a visit from a special guest, the Mayor of Peterborough John Peach, who was there to open the event and wish everyone good luck.
The day went on as it had started. There was a brilliant atmosphere as groups of friends and families came together to enjoy the event, raising money to help Magpas continue to save lives.
With the choice of a 5k bike or run, or a 3k walk round the Ferry Meadows Park, some keen individuals decided to go the extra mile, with one lady cycling 30 kilometres in total!
The grand fundraising total will be counted up by the end of the month, but in the meantime BRoW managed to raise £300 alone on the day for Magpas, thanks to a tombola stall amongst others, with prizes including two tickets to Newmarket Races and two tickets to a Peterborough United match (courtesy of Newmarket Racecourse and Peterborough United Football Club).
Anna Dutton, BRoW event organiser and Magpas fundraising volunteer, said, “BRoW exceeded all expectations. It was a fantastic day and I’d like to say a big thank you to everybody who took part, and to all the helpers and marshals; without them the event would not be possible. Everyone worked so well together and it all ran very smoothly; I’m already excited for next year’s event! This is all about helping Magpas continue to bring trauma care by land and by air, to those in life threatening emergencies.”
The next BRoW for Magpas will be held on 30th July 2016 at Ferry Meadows, Peterborough. If you’d like to help out, or for more information, then please call Anna Dutton on 01480 371 060 (Option 2).
