Earlier this year, family man Michael from Godmanchester, was all trained up and ready to go! His mission? To take part in a well-established national biking event. But sadly his ventures ground to a halt when his bike was stolen, only for him to be struck down by an serious illness shortly afterwards. However, as Michael puts it, “I thought, why waste all the training and hard work I’d already put in? Why not snatch charitable victory from the jaws of circumstantial defeat!”

Hence, at 9am this coming Friday morning (27th September), Michael will be setting off on The Three Kings Challenge; the longest cycling venture of his life to date – which he’s planning on completing in under 4 hours! Michael will begin his 100km journey at the Chinese Bridge in Godmanchester, before heading over to King’s College in Cambridge, onto Ely Cathedral (near King’s Ely School) and finishing in Hartford in Huntingdon (taking selfies along the way)…where he’ll be finishing up with a well-deserved beer and burger at the King of The Belgians pub.

Michael says, “When I was looking for a charity to support on my ride, I could think of no better cause than Magpas Air Ambulance. This is the furthest I have ever ridden, I’m aiming to go faster than I’ve ever done and I can think of no greater challenge than that! This echoes the aims of Magpas Air Ambulance exactly, as they encourage others to go the extra mile and help to keep their air ambulance for your community flying…so hopefully together we can raise funds for this terrific charity.”

To top the lot, unprompted, Michael even happens to have his own orange cycling vest (which is of course our charity colour). As he says, “The planets have aligned for this to happen. Wish my legs the best of luck!”
