Orange Day Events

Orange Day Events

There are many schools and businesses taking part and going orange for Magpas this year. Either they are wearing something orange and donating £1, or organising some fantastic fundraising challenges such as a netball tournament, bake sale and even a car push as well as getting the local community involved.

However, there are also lots of events and activities in aid of Orange Day, or with a Magpas Air Ambulance presence, which are open to the public as well. Anyone and everyone can take part – sing along at a charity gig, bid on baggage or pop along to a vintage sale. You don’t have to organise or fundraise yourself to show support for your local lifesavers this Orange Day!

Here's a list of Orange Day events you could attend over the weekend.

18th May:
Charity day: stalls and gardens at Dulligham House, Newmarket, CB8 9UP
Vintage sale at the Commemoration Hall, Huntingdon

19th May:
Orange Day activities at the Magpas Air Ambulance Peterborough charity shop on Bridge Street

20th May:
Unclaimed luggage sale (more info below) at Cambs Lock Antiques and Collectables and the Magpas Air Ambulance Huntingdon charity shop

The Legionnaires, 'Elvis' and Guns 'N' Abba charity gig at The Shed, Lode, Cambs at 8pm

21st May:

Bag a bargain! The ever-popular unclaimed luggage sale returns

Bag a bargain! The ever-popular unclaimed luggage sale returns

Cambs Lock Antiques and Collectables are hosting a left luggage sale in aid of Magpas Air Ambulance. Stansted Airport has donated hundreds of bags, suitcases and holdalls which have been left there by holiday makers and anyone can come along on the day and bid for a bag.

There will be auctions for medium and large cases; and what’s inside is a surprise. The contents could (quite literally) be pants, but it could be very valuable! It only takes a designer bag, clothes, or a good pair of hair straighteners for you to make a profit from your bid. You can sell your goodies on, keep them for yourself, or donate any unwanted items to the Magpas Air Ambulance charity stall.

The event will run from 10am - 4pm on Saturday 20th May. Auctions for the larger items will be held at 12pm and 2pm and small bags will be available to purchase throughout the day, for £5 a pop. The auctions will be held in the Cambs Lock Antiques and Collectables car park and immediately across the road, at the Magpas Air Ambulance Headquarters, crafts and antiques will be on sale. The Magpas charity stall will also be open throughout the day, there will be a tombola for the kids and refreshments will be available to purchase.

All money raised on the day will be donated to Magpas Air Ambulance, so the charity can continue to fund their vital, lifesaving service. It is only through fundraising events such as this and generous public donations that Magpas can continue to bring lifesaving care by land and air, to patients in medical emergencies across the east of England and beyond.

Bag a bargain at the Magpas Air Ambulance unclaimed luggage sale

Bag a bargain at the Magpas Air Ambulance unclaimed luggage sale

Join us and pick up their own potential treasure trove at the Magpas Air Ambulance unclaimed airport luggage sale on Saturday 26th March.

Buyers will have the chance to bag a bargain, with prices from £7.50 for a small case. However, there’s no peeking inside allowed, although punters can lift the bags to test their weight.

Our previous luggage sale in November raised over £1,200. A crowd of more than 300 people flocked to our charity shop and the bags sold out within an hour. One bag contained a pair of boots worth over £150 and others had some more unusual items including a scanner, a drill, and twenty chocolate bars.

The luggage has been donated by Stansted Airport and comes from travellers who failed to collect their bags when arriving.

Debbie Florence, Head of Fundraising says: “The sale was a great success last time, and we’re hoping more people will get the chance to find a hidden treasure amongst the bags. We’d definitely advise buyers to arrive early to avoid disappointment as it’s first come, first serve.”

The charity shop and sale will be open from 10am until 3pm at ourheadquarters at Centenary House, St Mary’s Street, Huntingdon.

24th year of vintage steam display to raise money for Magpas Air Ambulance

24th year of vintage steam display to raise money for Magpas Air Ambulance

A couple from Sutton are once again organising the annual vintage steam display in Little Downham, in aid of Magpas Air Ambulance.

The Bygones and Organs Extravaganza features a host of vintage cars, tractors, steam engines and organs which have attracted visitors for the past 23 years.

Trevor and Linda Brown host the event each year with the help of family and friends, and have raised in excess of £15,000 for the charity to date.

Linda said, “Visitors come from all over to see the display, which takes them back to a bygone era. We’ve raised funds for Magpas Air Ambulance each year, as it’s a local cause which helps people when they’re most in need. We’re really proud to have raised so much money for them, and we hope visitors will be back this year to continue that success.”

The Bygones and Organs Extravaganza will be held on Saturday 19th March from 1pm – 5pm at Little Downham Village Hall, Main Street, Little Downham, Ely, CB6 2ST

Entry is £2.50 for adults and £2 for children and senior citizens.

As we get ever closer to that festive time of year again, our children’s excitement levels will start to soar at the prospect of sleigh bells ringing and the Christmas holidays just around the corner! So what’s the secret behind keeping them occupied? Magpas has the answer…

Step onto the Unclaimed Luggage Carousel!

Step onto the Unclaimed Luggage Carousel!

PHOTO CAPTION (left to right): Magpas Paramedic Simon Standen, Stansted Airport Baggage Lead Agent Sarah Webb, Stansted Airport Baggage Lead Agent Scott Hyam, Magpas Doctor Zoe Smeed, Magpas former patient Wendy Mason and Miramar Engineering Director Greg Pelling at the Magpas Operations Base, as we all get ready for the Magpas Unclaimed Luggage event

If you're naturally a bit of a nosy neighbour, then I'm sure you'll be intrigued to learn that Magpas Air Ambulance will be holding our first Unclaimed Luggage Sale on Saturday 24th October - your chance to take part in a luggage pick and mix and find out what's inside some of the suitcases left behind by travellers at Stansted airport - at a bargain price!

Thanks to Stansted Airport, Magpas have been given a collection of different shapes and sizes of travel holders that have been left behind by their previous owners. (Stansted have a policy of waiting for a set time and if no one returns to pick up their bags, the airport donates them to Unclaimed Baggage events like the one Magpas is hosting).

Stansted Airport Baggage Lead Agents, Sarah Webb and Scott Hyam (as in the photos above), explained why they chose to support Magpas, "Magpas is a charity that's there for everyone and anyone who needs them, so we wanted to raise money for them. Visiting the Magpas Operations Base just highlighted the hard work that goes on behind the scenes to make this lifesaving service happen!"

In the lead up to the sale in October, Miramar Engineering have kindly offered to store all the luggage for Magpas, as well as to pick up the unwanted suitcases from Stansted along the way! Miramar Engineering Director Greg Pelling talked about why he decided to do this for Magpas, "It's our way of giving something back and it's more of a hands on approach than writing a cheque. We also thought it was great use of the company's facilities and resources". Greg went on to say, "Miramar spend so much time on the roads, it's brilliant to know Magpas are there if we ever need them".

Magpas former patient and volunteer fundraiser, Wendy Mason, has also put a huge amount of time and effort into helping to make this event happen. Wendy said, "Magpas saved my life, it's as simple that. I encourage everyone to come along on the 24th October to do their bit and help support them. I'm hoping this will be the first of many unclaimed baggage events for Magpas".

The Magpas Unclaimed Luggage event is happening between 10am - 3pm on 24th October at the Magpas Fundraising HQ, St Mary's Street in Huntingdon. You can just turn up and take part! You can pick up a bag to feel its weight but you can't open any of the bags...then you decide which suitcase grabs your attention and buy it! And whilst you're there, you're always welcome to have a look round the Magpas Charity Shop.

We look forward to seeing you there!

In just ten years, local company CamCab has become one of the top 30 most profitable taxi companies in the country, recently signing a deal to become part of the national network of Addison Lee, one of London's largest private hire companies. CamCab's high growth is no accident: it has been achieved by a combination of close attention to detail, high-quality training and using the latest technology to provide the very best and safest customer experience. The company takes its environmental responsibilities seriously too, running only low-emission vehicles and using recycled water in the Green Clean car wash.

Whilst growing a successful business is important to him, founder and managing director Rowhi Nemer also places great importance on giving back to the community. Magpas, which brings specialist A&E care by land and air to patients in life threatening emergencies in the Eastern region and beyond, is one of a number of local causes that have benefitted from CamCab's generosity.

Rowhi was so impressed with the vital service Magpas delivers, he set up a complimentary CamCab taxi account for the Magpas Helimedix team to use when they find themselves stranded at Addenbrooke's Hospital, needing to get back to base after treating patients.

Tickets for the dinner are priced at £60 each and can be purchased at www.camcabcharitydinner.org.uk where you can also see the full list of items to be auctioned.
