Nigel Brown OBE retired from the eponymous NWBrown Group five years ago and since then has been mainly concentrating on the charitable sector. Apart from chairing Magpas Air Ambulance, he is also chair of the Cambridge CAB, and of the Saffron Hall Trust.
He continues to champion his support for top UK-based string players via his charity the Stradivari Trust. Over the last thirty years he has formed syndicated trusts which have secured thirty nine instruments with a combined value of c.£60million.
He was an External Member of the Cambridge University Council and chair of the University Audit Committee. On retirement from these he became Deputy Chair of the Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) Board of Governors. He won an Individual Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion in 2004 and he was High Sheriff of Cambridgeshire for 2010-2011. Among other things, he is non-executive chair of wine merchant Thorman Hunt Ltd and he is a Trustee of the Cambridge Union Society. He has an Honorary Doctorate from Anglia Ruskin University and is an honorary member of the Royal Society of Musicians and an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.
