Cambridge, single car collision – Magpas called to scene

At 8.14pm last night (17th) Magpas Helimedix (Doctor Sarah McNeilly and Paramedic Dan Read) arrived in Cambridge via the Magpas Rapid Response BMW - following a road traffic incident where a car had left the road and collided with a fence and signpost, leaving a man (in his 20’s) trapped inside the vehicle.

Emergency services worked together to safely remove the man from the car. The Magpas team then worked alongside EEAST Ambulance Service Paramedic Crews to assess the patient who had suffered multiple injuries. The Magpas Doctor and Paramedic anaesthetised the man (providing him with specialist A&E care on the scene), before accompanying him to Addenbrooke’s Hospital by land ambulance. On arrival at the hospital the patient was in a serious condition.

At 12.52am this morning (16th) Magpas Helimedix (Doctor Leigh Bissett and Paramedic Chris Hawkins) arrived in Kettering via the Magpas Rapid Response BMW, following a road traffic incident where a man had suffered a fall from a motorcycle.

The Helimedix assessed the patient who had suffered a head injury. The Magpas team anaesthetised the man (providing him with specialist A&E care on the scene) before accompanying him to Coventry Hospital by land ambulance. On arrival at the hospital the patient was in a serious condition.

East Midlands Ambulance Service Paramedic Crews and the Police were also on the scene.

At 6.36pm on Friday evening (13th) Magpas Helimedix (Doctor Zoe Smeed and Paramedic Dan Read, alongside Doctor Maria Smith) arrived on the A14 in the Huntingdon area via the Magpas Rapid Response BMW – following a road traffic collision involving two cars and a van.

The Magpas team assessed a man (in his 60’s) and a woman (in her 60’s) who had fortunately suffered only minor injuries. The patients were subsequently taken to Hinchingbrooke Hospital, in stable conditions, by EEAST Ambulance Service Paramedic Crews.

The Police, and Fire and Rescue Services were also on the scene.

At 9.02am this morning (10th) Magpas Helimedix (Doctor Lee Soomaroo and Paramedic Chris Hawkins, alongside Doctor Simon Lewis) arrived to the north east of Wisbech via the Magpas Air Ambulance. A man (in his 60’s) was hit by a falling tree whilst he was helping to cut it down.

The Magpas team assessed the patient who had suffered a head injury. The Helimedix then accompanied the man to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn by land ambulance. On arrival at the hospital the patient was in a stable condition.

The Helicopter team who flew the Helimedix to the scene was: Pilot Gabriel Barton and Crew Member Steve Hunwicks.

EEAST Ambulance Service Paramedic Crews were also on the scene.

The Magpas team sedated the man (providing him with specialist A&E care on the scene), before working alongside Fire and Rescue Services to safely remove him from the car. The Helimedix then accompanied the patient to Addenbrooke’s Hospital by land ambulance, where on arrival he was in a serious but stable condition.

Fire and Rescue Services worked to safely remove the patient from underneath the car. The Helimedix then assessed the woman who had fortunately not suffered any serious injuries. The Magpas team provided the patient with pain relief, before accompanying her to Peterborough City Hospital by land ambulance. On arrival at the hospital the woman was in a stable condition.

The Magpas team then worked alongside emergency services to safely remove the woman from underneath the lorry, before providing her with specialist A&E care on the scene. The Helimedix accompanied the patient to Addenbrooke’s Hospital by land ambulance, where on arrival she was in a serious condition.

The Helimedix assessed the patient who had suffered a head injury. The Magpas team anaesthetised the woman (providing her with specialist A&E care), before flying her to Addenbrooke’s Hospital. On arrival at the hospital the patient was in a serious but stable condition.

The Helicopter team who flew the Helimedix to the scene/ the Helimedix and the patient to hospital was: Pilot Andy Figg and Crew Member George Phillips.

At 1:53pm this afternoon (Saturday 24th), Magpas Helimedix (Doctor Raluca Ionescu and Paramedic Chris Hawkins) landed in a field, in the Fordham area, via the Magpas Air Ambulance. A woman (in her 50’s) had suffered leg injuries after her legs were caught in an industrial grass cutter.

The Magpas team sedated the patient and put measures into place to protect her injuries (providing the woman with enhanced A&E level care at the scene). The Magpas Doctor and Paramedic then accompanied the patient in a land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where on arrival she was in a stable condition.

The Helicopter team who flew the Helimedix to the scene was: Magpas Pilot Dan Vickers and Magpas Crew Member Steve Hunwicks.

An EEAST Ambulance Service Paramedic Crew was also present.

At 8:20pm last night, Magpas Helimedix were called to St Neots via the Magpas Rapid Response BMW - after a man suffered serious chest injuries.

The Magpas team provided advanced level trauma care for the patient. Sadly despite everyone’s best efforts the man was pronounced dead at the scene, our thoughts are with the patient’s family and friends at this time.

EEAST Ambulance Service Paramedic Crews and Cambridgeshire Police teams were also present.

At 3.18am this morning (20th) Magpas Helimedix (Doctor Zoe Smeed and Paramedic Chris Hawkins) arrived in St Albans via the Magpas Rapid Response BMW, following a road traffic collision involving a car and a motor caravan.

The Helimedix assessed a man (in his late teens) who had suffered multiple injuries. The Magpas team anaesthetised the patient (providing him with specialist A&E care on the scene), before accompanying him initially to Watford General Hospital by land ambulance, and then on to St Mary’s Hospital in Westminster for further treatment. On arrival at the hospital the patient was in a critical condition.

EEAST Ambulance Service Paramedic Crews, Fire and Rescue Services, the Police, and a Basics Doctor were also on the scene.

At 6:30pm last night, (19th), Magpas Helimedix (Doctor Andy Lindsay and Paramedic Dan Cody, together with Doctor Maria Smith) arrived at the A14 near Kettering via the Magpas Rapid Response BMW - following a road traffic collision involving four cars and a lorry, leaving a man (in his 40’s) severely trapped inside one of the vehicles with head and arm injuries.

The Magpas team worked alongside a Northamptonshire Fire & Rescue Service Crew and EMAS Ambulance Service Paramedic Crews to remove the patient safely from the car. The Magpas Doctors and Paramedic administered pain relief for the patient, before accompanying him in a land ambulance to Kettering Hospital. On arrival at the hospital, the man was in a stable condition.

Five other patients were also assessed at the scene of this incident, fortunately none of them suffered serious injuries.

Northamptonshire Police were also present. The Magpas Team would like to thank the rest of the emergency services for their excellent team work.

The Magpas team assessed three other patients at the scene for minor injuries, before they were also taken to Peterborough City Hospital by the ambulance service.

The Helicopter team who flew the Helimedix to the scene was: Pilot Clive Knott and Crew Member George Phillips.

At 3:05am in the early hours of yesterday morning (Sunday 18th), Magpas Helimedix (Doctor Sarah McNeilly and Paramedic Ollie Robinson) arrived in the Ely area via the Magpas Rapid Response BMW - following a road traffic incident involving a car which had left the road and ended up in a ditch. A woman (in her 20’s) was trapped inside the vehicle.

The patient was removed safely from the car by a Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service Crew and a HART team. The Magpas Team administered enhanced pain relief for the patient who had suffered head injuries (providing her with A&E level care at the scene).

The Helimedix then accompanied the patient in a land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where on arrival she was in a stable condition.

EEAST Ambulance Service Paramedic Crews and the Police were also on the scene.
