Bedford, motorcyclist injured in collision with car - Magpas Air Ambulance flies to the scene

At 4.31pm on Sunday afternoon (9th) Magpas Doctor Saad Jawaid and Paramedic Ollie Robinson landed in Bedford via the Magpas air ambulance. They had been called by the EEAST Ambulance Service to treat a motorcyclist injured in a collision with a car.

The Magpas enhanced medical team assessed a man (in his 20s) who had sustained a pelvic injury. They sedated him at the scene (providing him with A&E level care) and provided him with pain relief. They then airlifted him to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge where he was in a serious condition upon arrival at hospital.

The helicopter crew who flew the medical team and patient were Pilot Andy Figg and Crewmember Nigel Cullen.

An EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crew and two rapid response vehicles were also in attendance.

At 7.48am this morning (30th) Magpas Doctor Scott Knapp and Paramedic Alex Pearce arrived in Bedford via the Magpas Air Ambulance rapid response vehicle. They had been called to treat a man who had been injured in a collision between two vehicles.

The Magpas enhanced medical team assessed the patient (in his 20’s) who had sustained a head injury. They placed the patient into a medically induced coma at the scene (providing him with A&E level care). Before an East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) crew airlifted the man, who was in a stable condition, to Addenbrooke’s hospital in Cambridge.

An EAST Ambulance Service paramedic crew, Bedfordshire police and the Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance.

Magpas Air Ambulance provides critical care at 2x incidents in 12 hours in Bedford

Magpas Air Ambulance was called to two separate incidents in Bedford on Saturday afternoon (25th) and in the early hours of this morning (26th) to give advanced care to two men with head injuries.

At 4.22pm on Saturday afternoon (25th) Magpas Doctors Steve Corry-Bass and Simon Lewis, and Paramedic Chris Hawkins, landed in Bedford via the Magpas Air Ambulance. They had been called by the EEAST Ambulance Service to treat a man (in his 20s) who had sustained a head injury. They placed the man into an induced coma at the scene (providing him with A&E level care) before airlifting him to Addenbrooke’s Hospital. He was in a stable condition upon arrival at hospital.

The Magpas enhanced medical team was again called to Bedford at 4.57am on Sunday morning (26th). Magpas Doctor Rupert Hurry and Paramedic Steve Chambers arrived by rapid response vehicle to treat a man (in his 60s) who had sustained a head injury following a fall. They placed the man into an induced coma before accompanying him by land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, where he was in a critical condition upon arrival.

EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crews were in attendance at both incidents.

Bedford, car vs ditch - Magpas Air Ambulance performs specialist procedure at scene

At 9:46 last night (2nd), Magpas Doctor Saad Jawaid and Paramedic Ollie Robinson arrived in Bedford via a Magpas Air Ambulance rapid response vehicle. They had been called after a car left the road and ended up in a ditch - where a man was found in cardiac arrest.

When the Magpas enhanced medical team arrived, an EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crew had successfully resuscitated the patient (in his 70’s). The Magpas medical team then performed a road side surgical procedure, providing the man with enhanced A&E level care, after he went into a second cardiac arrest. The Magpas doctor and paramedic then accompanied the patient to Bedford Hospital, in a land ambulance, where upon arrival the man was in critical condition.

A Magpas Air Ambulance spokesperson said “This incident highlights how we can bring vital hospital level care to seriously ill patients when time is of the essence, 24/7 in the East of England and beyond.”

Bedfordshire police were also in attendance.

At 1:30pm yesterday afternoon (20th), Magpas Doctor Ed Barnard and Paramedic Oliver Robinson landed in Bedford via the Magpas Air Ambulance - after a collision involving a car and a pedestrian, in a supermarket car park.

The Magpas enhanced medical team assessed a woman (in her 70s) who had sustained multiple injuries. They worked alongside an EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crew to put measures into place to protect the patient’s injuries, before transferring her by road to Bedford Hospital. The woman was in a very serious but stable condition upon arrival at hospital.

The helicopter crew who flew the medical team and patient were Chief Pilot Richard Eastwood and Crewmember Lee Kennedy.
Bedfordshire Police were also in attendance.

At 1:48pm this afternoon (8th), Magpas Doctor Steve Cory-Bass, Paramedic Dan Cody and Doctor Simon Lewis landed just south of the A6 near Bedford, via the Magpas Air Ambulance. They had been called out to a car that had left the road and collided with a tree.

The Magpas medical team assessed a woman (in her late teens) who had sustained a serious head injury. They worked alongside a Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue team and an EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crew to move the patient safely out of the vehicle. The Magpas doctors and paramedic then anesthetised the young woman at the scene (giving her A&E level care), before air lifting her to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. The patient was in a serious but stable condition upon arrival at hospital.

The Magpas team also assessed a man (in his late teens) who suffered minor injuries.

The helicopter crew who flew the medical team and patient were Pilot Andy Figg and Crewmember Rob Davies.

Bedfordshire Police were also in attendance.

At 8.26am this morning (15th), Magpas Doctors Mark Tehan and Tom Odbert, and Paramedic Alex Pearce landed beside the A421 in the Magpas Air Ambulance. They had been called to treat two people injured when a car left the road.

The Magpas medical team assessed a woman (in her 40’s) and a teenage boy who had both sustained minor injuries and were trapped inside the vehicle. The team assisted the ambulance and fire services in extricating the patients from the vehicle. They then provided the woman with pain relief before accompanying them by land ambulance to Bedford Hospital. The patients were both in a stable condition upon arrival at hospital.

The Magpas team assessed a man (in his 20s), a passenger in one of the vehicles, who had suffered head injuries. The team anaesthetised the patient (providing him with A&E level care) before accompanying him by land ambulance to Luton and Dunstable Hospital, where he was in a stable condition on arrival.

The Magpas team assessed the man (in his 30’s) who had sustained injuries to his head and neck. The Magpas Doctor and Paramedic then accompanied the patient by land ambulance to Bedford Hospital, where on arrival he was in a stable condition.

The Helicopter team who flew the Magpas Doctor and Paramedic to the scene was: Chief Pilot Richard Eastwood and Crew Member Steve Hunwicks.

Bedford, man suffers leg injury - Magpas called to him

At 4:05am this morning (Wednesday 28th) Magpas Helimedix (Doctor Zoe Smeed and Paramedic Ollie Robinson) arrived in Bedford via the Magpas Rapid Response BMW, after a man (in his 50's) suffered an injury to his leg.

The Magpas Doctor and Paramedic provided pain relief for the patient and splinted his limb - whilst working alongside an EEAST Ambulance Service Paramedic Crew. The man was then safely removed from the building he was in and taken to Bedford Hospital in land ambulance. On arrival at the hospital he was in a stable condition.
