Targeting Road Injury Prevention (TRIP)
TRIP is a project that aims to define profiles of persons considered culpable for injury crashes regardless of whether or not they were injured. TRIP then aims to test whether prevention strategies targeted at these high risk profiles have an impact on casualty reduction. Magpas plan to undertake the TRIP project in 2011; the charity is now actively seeking corporate and public funding to support this research. Cambridgeshire Trauma Audit Research Project (CTARP)
CTARP is a population based multi-agency injury research register which aims to describe the epidemiology of serious and fatal injury within the geographical county of Cambridgeshire. Injury is defined as physical damage resulting when a human body is “suddenly or briefly subjected to intolerable levels of energy” in amounts that “exceed the threshold of physiological tolerance” (WHO).
“Trauma kills or seriously injures over 3,500 children and young people each year. If it were a disease it would be called an epidemic. We are determined to learn as much as we can so we can improve treatment and prevention.” Dr James French Magpas Research Fellow 2005
Magpas initiated the CTARP project in 2005; the results are due to be published at the end of 2010. The charity anticipate being able to demonstrate a particularly strong correlation between positive patient outcomes and critical care provided by Magpas Helimedix.
