Magpas is a Charity, registered with the Charity Commission (1119279) and managed by a Board of 9 Trustees, all of whom are elected by the charity members to serve for a period of 3 years.
The Trustees meet on a regular basis, usually every 2 months, to discuss current operations and decide on any developments for the future.
The Trustees are unpaid and all have full time occupations outside of Magpas therefore to help run the organisation and coordinate the activities of over 200 medical service volunteers we have a small team of 10 full time and 4 part time staff (see the ‘Meet the Magpas Team’ page).
Based in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, our offices are easily accessible with convenient parking, so volunteers and the general public should have no difficulty in visiting us.
Our location is 5 minutes drive from our EMT operational base, making it convenient to provide the team with day to day support.
Like any Charitable body, Magpas relies heavily on the goodwill and support of the general public, many of whom give of their time as volunteers in various capacities.
The web section on ‘How You Can Help’ explains volunteering opportunities in greater detail.
As well as the ‘hands on’ Medical Services, Magpas has created a unique research project, the Cambridgeshire Trauma Audit Research Project (CTARP) which contains 5 years worth of data relating to major trauma incidents, including road traffic accidents, occurring in the County. This information, taken not just from our own clinical records, but from other emergency services, such as the Police, Fire and Rescue, and hospitals can tell us a great deal about how to further improve patient care .
These improvements in service organisation, delivery and medical activity are not just limited to Magpas’ sphere of operation but can and will lead to improvements in Emergency Medicine across the United Kingdom.
