magpas   DEDICATED VOLUNTEER LIFESAVERS

Last year Magpas saved my life at the scene of a motorbike accident. The charity is solely reliant on support from the public and local businesses so for the lifesaving to continue they need your help!

Please join me in supporting this wonderful charity and visit the `How You Can Help’ section to find out more.   Thank You.

Mark Clingo - Former Magpas Patient
Magpas has been saving lives throughout the region since 1971.

Our Emergency Medical Team and Community First Responders provide additional medical support to patients at the scene, making a real difference to many people’s lives.

The charity's highly skilled doctors and paramedics are now also able to operate throughout Bedfordshire thanks to partnerships with the East Anglian Air Ambulance Charity and the East of England Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

Magpas is a charity solely funded by donations and receives no money from the NHS or other Government funding. We are proud to have received recognition for our work by being awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service in 2005. In 2006 we received a Glaxo Smith Kline Impact Award for excellence in our work and commitment to improve the quality of human life. In that same year we achieved the Investing in Volunteers Quality Standard Award. In 2007 we became the only medical charity of our kind in the UK to achieve Independent Medical Agency status having passed the intensive application process. We also undergo annual assessments from the Healthcare Commission to ensure that we are maintaining the highest of standards.

Our charity is reliant on the commitment of volunteer Doctors, Paramedics and Community First Responders. Some Emergency Medical Team members travel over 100 miles to come and undertake an operational shift.

Over the last 12 months the Emergency Medical Team has been called out more than 350 times when there have been trauma incidents. Many of these have involved patients who have sustained life-threatening injuries. In the same period, our Community First Responders volunteered more than 130,000 hours of cover, giving medical support in 1500 cases.

The charity relies on an active network of non-medical volunteers who assist with a wide variety of fundraising events . We also receive much appreciated support from local businesses.
